Foil Printing – The Facts

Foil printing, although highly current and en vogue, dates back hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years. From the ancient Egyptians to medieval monks, the history behind foil printing tells of royalty and riches. Throughout the ages this shimmering medium has been used to add beauty, signify wealth and is above all synonymous with style.

But enough with the history lesson. Our foil printing has come on leaps and bounds, with many an innovative technique being experimented with by printers across the country. We have our own preferred methods, combining beautiful duplexed, luxuriously thick sheets with our machines, the unique care and attention of our own (sometimes) fair hands and a hint of design prowess to create some seriously glorious stationery suites. This beautiful method of craftsmanship rings true to lovers of letterpress methods, but with the added element of up to the minute aesthetics through the use of metallic bling in abundance.

Our expertly selected cards are decorated in gold (or silver, or copper of course) through a method which involves engraving a bespoke metal plate with each individual design and then applying heat whilst merging a sheet of shimmering foil between plate and card. The result? A stunning finish, complete with beautiful texture, deeply imprinted text and unparalleled shine.

Foil is a stunning choice to add extra interest and a luxurious edge to your stationery. Glinting in the light, the addition of foil can bring life to any style of celebration, whether opting for a modern, clean, chic aesthetic or aiming for a more opulent design incorporating your venue perhaps; a favourite among some of our most recent brides (check out our instagram feed for foil crests from the likes of Aynhoe and Blenheim Palace). For even more of an enviable finish, consider some seriously stunning gilt edging; effortless, elegant and unforgettable.
